Going to the loo?

Just a few days ago, when I was relieving myself in the gents in a shopping mall, a man came in with his daughter (less than 5 yrs old I think) in tow.

The man went on to do his 'business', while his little girl was cringing in a corner, pinching her nose, trying her best to be invisible in the crowd.

I understand the rationale, when mama is not around and papa got to make sure darling is alright and in sight, even when going to the loo.

But I can't help feeling a little bit outraged. You can call me a prude, but putting yourself in the little girl's shoes, she must have felt so embarassed!

I start to think about the future when my own little girl grows up. Will I be doing the same thing?

I promised myself that I will do my utmost to make sure that I don't find myself in a similar situation.

Less Time For English Posts

Quite some time has passed since I started this blog.

Going back in time, I realised that the majority of my posts have been in Chinese.
I guess this shows my love and preference for the Chinese language.

I'll give myself some more time.
If the ratio of my English and Chinese posts remains disproportionate,
I'll created another blog and move all my English posts over.

What do you think?

Soul Substitute?

Read an article this morning on www.todayonline.com about researchers in Singapore leading the pack in the race to produce a viable substitute for a vital ingredient in our body, blood.

Yes, blood.

Reading about the article makes one wonder at how far science and technology have evolved, but not so for the human race. We seems to be relying more and more on technology to adapt ourselves to the harsher natural environment, instead of evolving our physical bodies to do so.

It also makes me wonder how far more science & technology can go.

Maybe someone somewhere will identify and come up with subsitute for the human soul.

Bilingual Blog?

I started this blog initially to see for myself what can be done in a blog and also to satisfy my curiosity.

After an initial few posts, I left the blog aside due to some other time consuming commitments.

I recently came back to my blog and was thinking of continuing where I left off, but I soon realised that my motives and objectives of maintaining the blog has changed.

Instead of just an english blog to document my various thoughts and air my opinions on various issues in Singapore and the world at large, I realised I also wanted to share with my readers my love for the chinese language and culture and also my passion for writing, in both languages.

As a result, I've created a new category of articles and posted a couple of my older chinese essays as a start.

I also realised that truely bilingual (english & chinese) blogs are not that common and not easy to maintain and plan.

But I'm willing to try for some time to see if it will work out.

If you have something to share & suggest, do drop me a note so that the blog can be improved.

To sign off, a 2-liner from a poem by 王之涣:

欲穷千里目,
更上一层楼。

Valentine's Day

It's that time of the year again, when the service industry scrambles to compete for the dollars that lovers and couples will spend to create romantic memories.

My wife and I, in contrast, will be spending a quiet day at work, followed by dinner at home.

Celebrating Valentine's Day in Singapore is an expensive and troublesome affair. This is a great opportunity for the various vendors and providers of services to jack up prices to astronomical levels.

Although a gift is a form of expression of love, I feel that it is important to remember that love encompasses much much more.

We should not forgot that more often than not, it's the simple things in life that gives us much meaningful pleasure.

To Articulate

I can feel time drifting slowly towards wherever it is headed, as I sit in front of my computer, composing this entry out of the chaotic tangle of ideas at the back of my mind.

There are too many things I would like to write about, too many reactions to the everyday comings and goings of the world, of Singapore, that I would like to express, but finding it hard to do so.

I wonder at how easy it is for other people to put into words events and feelings that I find hard to articulate.

After three paragraphs, nothing concrete.

It's not that I'm not good at writing. It's just that I'm lousy at writing about what I feel.
Stories, arguments, sentences flashes at the back of my mind, but what comes out always leave me disappointed.

I guess I think too much.
In the future, I will try to think less and do more.

First Jump

This is my first jump onto the rapidly crowding blogging train.

I've resisted the urge to expose my feelings and thoughts and dread the sharing of my innermost self.

With this first post, I hoped to start a journey into my own mind, imprinting bits and pieces of my ideas and musings from their fleeting materialisation, so that I can replay my life journey from this time forth.

This blog is more for my own experience and collection, but anyone of you readers are free to condemn the darker side of me, or give me a slap on my back.

I aim to be as honest to myself as I can be.
